Signature launches cookbook with recipes from nursing home residents, staff

Just in time for the holiday cooking season, Signature HealthCARE (SHC) has released a cookbook featuring recipes – some generations old – from residents and staff members in its nursing homes.

Titled ‘Cooking with Love,’ the book features a little bit of everything, from appetizers, soups and salads to sides, all-American dishes, ethnic fare, desserts and more. The project began earlier this year in Signature’s Urban Division, with staff members at SHC centers soliciting recipes from residents and contributing their own.

Recipes in hand, Signature then held a contest asking employees to submit suggestions for the book’s title. Meanwhile, residents created and submitted artwork for the cover.

Printed and ready for sale, ‘Cooking with Love’ now can be purchased for $10 at participating Signature facilities, and through Signature’s home office in Louisville, Ky. The majority of the proceeds will be used to fund ‘staycations’ and other Quality of Life programming at Signature facilities.

Signature buildings are also using the cookbook as a platform to launch a program series tied to cultural diversity. Each month during the next year, Quality of Life leaders will highlight a different country and offer themed activities, meals and outings centered around that country.

Signature is also filming a series of cooking segments to be released periodically online. For a glimpse at the first segment, click HERE.

“We’re so grateful to the residents and staff who were willing to share some of their culinary secrets!” said Tiffany Hoback, Chief Financial Officer of Signature Urban, who helped spearhead the project. “Just as our residents have for many years, we hope others will enjoy these recipes together with their families.”
